In this video, the instructor is presenting a lot of demands to Malerie while “pairing”. The instructor is taking notes and sporadically commenting on what Malerie is doing, asking her lots of questions, and then presenting demands in the book. The instructor does not really engage with Malerie. The instructor does not do anything to make the toys more fun with her. Malerie responds to the instructions in this video but the instructor and Malerie are not developing a positive relationship and Malerie is likely not learning to value people. In fact, she may learn to value objects more because after performing a demand, she is given access to her preferred objects without any ongoing adult interaction/social reinforcement.
